Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of owning my own business. I was convinced, at the age of seven, that one day I would own a candy store, or a toyshop, or maybe even a pony ranch! Over the years my interests changed, of course, and although I didn't know exactly what my business would be, I never let go of that dream.
After university, I fell into commercial photography, producing photo shoots for various catalogue and advertising clients, shopping wardrobe for shoots, and working on set to make the clothes look great.
After I had my first son, my interests changed from womens' clothing to childrens'. I noticed how few choices there were for kids, and especially for boys. My first business idea was to start a cool little t-shirt line, with retro, pop culture-inspired graphics on them. I became absolutely obsessed with kids clothing, and would spend hours on the internet, trying to find the coolest clothing lines out there. I started bookmarking sites - I gathered hundreds over the past years! I remember joking to my sister, "I could open up the coolest clothing store with all of these great lines I know about!"
That was it. Soon after, I opened my first JetBaby store.
I want JetBaby to be different from the average childrens' clothing store. I want it to be cool and unique, trendy but affordable. Above all, I want JetBaby to be fun! I try to carry all my favourite things: really great clothes, toys and books. I love all the positive feedback I get, and nothing makes me happier than to hear people laughing when they pick up a teeny-tiny AC/DC onesie!
My two boys think JetBaby is the coolest thing. They are like my little focus group - I often ask them which products they like best when I'm placing orders. It's fun to see what appeals to them, and it's really helpful to share their opinions with my customers.
I've just scratched the surface with JetBaby; there is so much more I want to do, so many more products I want to carry in the shop, even though I'm always bringing in new stock, new lines. So take a look around the shop. Whether it's rad, awesome, or classic cool, I'm pretty sure you'll find something that will thrill both you and your child.
Why?
Because rock and roll will never die.
Sweet.
Joanne
